§ 2.16.140. Election supplies and equipment.

    Before the opening of the polls on the day of the election the city clerk shall furnish to the election board the following:

    1.

    An American flag of such size as may be determined by the council, to be erected at or near the polling place;

    2.

    A ballot box of sufficient size to contain the ballots cast in the election. The ballot box shall be capable of being locked and shall have a slit or other opening in the top to permit the insertion of ballots and envelopes of questioned ballots;

    3.

    The state voter registration list for the precinct;

    4.

    A sufficient number of booths in which voters may conveniently mark their ballots;

    5.

    A sufficient number of instruction cards, in a form prescribed by the clerk, for the guidance of voters in voting;

    6.

    Pens, indelible pencils, scissors for removing ballot numbers and spindles or other devices of keeping the ballot number;

    7.

    A list of persons to whom absentee ballots have been issued;

    8.

    Envelopes for use by questioned voters;

    9.

    Tally sheets and certificates of election results;

    10.

    A copy of this chapter; and

    11.

    Such other materials and supplies deemed necessary and appropriate to permit the election board to conduct the election in accordance with law.

    B.

    The city clerk shall prepare instructions explaining to voters how to obtain ballots, how to mark them, and how to obtain new ballots to replace those destroyed or spoiled. These instructions shall be printed on cards in large, clear type and shall be prominently displayed in the polling place. The city clerk shall provide booths at the polling place with appropriate supplies and conveniences to enable each voter to mark his or her ballot screened from observation.
