§ 2.48.010. Confidentiality of records.

    Documents and information in the possession of the police department relating to pending investigations shall be confidential and may be furnished or disclosed to other persons only with the approval of the chief. Records or information which is furnished to the police department by other agencies or persons on the condition that it remain confidential shall be kept confidential by the chief. All other records of the department are public.

    If any request for information from the police department is denied by the chief, the person whose request is denied may appeal the denial to the city manager. With or without revealing the information sought at the chief's discretion, the chief shall advise the city manager of the basis for denial. The city manager shall decide whether the information should be furnished or refused.
