§ 2.28.020. Fire chief—Appointment.

  • Appointment of fire chief. The fire chief is appointed for an indefinite term of office. The chief serves at the pleasure of the city manager. As long as the fire chief and firefighters are volunteers, the city manager will consult with firefighters and other members of the community and shall appoint the person who has the best knowledge of firefighting, leadership qualities, and time and willingness to serve. At such time as the council determines that a paid fire chief will be employed by the city, then the qualifications for appointment will be based upon professional knowledge, experience in the field, and other criteria established by the council.
